I agree that the milgrain edges are not appropriate for an engagement ring. This might look better it there were a matching wedding band with the same edging.

I'm not crazy about this setting. The ridges around the edge are a little weird. I hink a smoother, rounder band is better. The detailing takes too much of the attention away from the diamond.
